BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Casting directors will be in Birmingham on Monday, April 9, to hold an open call for extras for an upcoming film about Brooklyn Dodgers baseball great Jackie Robinson.

The film, “42,” which is the number Robinson wore, is about the relationship between Robinson and Dodgers executive Branch Rickey. Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947.

Harrison Ford will star as Rickey and Chadwick Boseman will play Robinson.

The movie will be filmed in Alabama and Tennessee later this year.

The casting call takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Boutwell Auditorium. Parking ticket from the adjoining deck will be validated during registration. A second casting call will be held in Chattanooga on Tuesday.

Casting directors are looking for men and women 18 and older to play baseball fans, umpires and coaches. The positions are paid.

Prospective extras are encouraged to bring a headshot and to wear 1940s attire.

Men should wear dress pants, short-sleeve button shirts, suspenders, sportcoats, dress shoes and fedoras. Women are asked to wear dresses, Oxford shoes or high heels, and small hats. Everyone is discouraged from wearing brown. 

"We are currently looking for experienced Caucasian and African-American baseball players, ages 25-38," officials said in an email announcement.

In addition to the casting calls, a call for crew has also been announced. Resumes for local crew to work in various production roles on the film during the Chattanooga shooting are being accepted now.

Baseball players should send three photos (head and body) along with their age, weight, height and list of baseball experience, including position, to clcbaseball@gmail.com.
